Assistant Professor of Management

Florence Pinto Basto holds a Ph.D in Management from Nova SBE, an Msc. in Accounting, Taxation and Corporate Finance from ISEG, University of Lisbon, an Msc. in Management (Accounting and Finance, ABD) from FGV-Escola de Administração de Empresas de São Paulo, and a Licenciatura (5-year degree) from Católica-Lisbon. She teaches undergraduate and master-level programs at the University of Lisbon. Her research interests are focused on disclosure (risk, financial, accounting, corporate social responsibility) and its relationship with the formal and informal institutional environment, corporate governance, and performance. She had her research in these topics presented in main academic conferences in Europe and in the US. Her most recent forthcoming publication studies how national culture is associated with voluntary operational risk disclosure quality in the European Union banking industry and how this association is affected by the formal institutional environment and banks’ degree of internationalization. Her teaching background lies in the fields of accounting, corporate financial reporting, financial statement analysis and research methods. She supervises master students’ projects and dissertations. Prior to pursuing academia, Florence worked as a capital markets’ analyst in the banking industry in Portugal and a planning and control, and afterwards, business development senior analyst in the telecom industry in Brazil. She founded and managed her own company and worked in business development for online retailers. She currently collaborates with companies as a Supervisory Board member.
