Dr. Florence Pinto Basto
Assistant Professor of Management
Florence Pinto Basto holds a PhD in Management from Nova SBE, an MSc in Accounting, Taxation, and Corporate Finance from ISEG,University of Lisbon, an MSc in Management (Accounting and Finance, ABD) from FGV-Escola de Administração de Empresas de São Paulo, and a Licenciatura from Católica-Lisbon. She currently teaches undergraduate and master’s programmes at the University of Lisbon. Her research focuses on disclosure in the areas of financial, risk, and corporate social responsibility information, examining its connections with institutional environments, corporate governance, and performance. Florence has presented her work at major academic conferences across Europe and the US. Her most recent publication explores the relationship between national culture and voluntary operational risk disclosure quality in EU banking, taking into account the role of formal institutional environments and banks’ degree of internationalisation. Florence teaches in the fields of accounting, corporate financial reporting, financial statement analysis, and research methods, and supervises master’s projects and dissertations. Prior to academia, she gained extensive experience as a capital markets analyst in banking in Portugal and as a senior analyst in planning, control, and business development within Brazil’s telecom industry. She also founded and managed her own company, with additional roles in business development for online retailers. Currently, she serves as a Supervisory Board member for several companies.
