Dr. Fabian Cuervo

Fabian holds a PhD in Development Studies (cum laude) from the Lisbon School of Economics and Management of the University of Lisbon, with a dissertation about the relationship between economic (under)development and armed conflict.
During his Master’s degree in Germany, he researched about the links between cultural traits and economic development, and lectured courses on Intercultural Relations and International Organizations.
Fabian also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the National University of Colombia.
Prior to joining Forward, Fabian has been professor of economics at universities in Bogotá-Colombia and Madrid-Spain, teaching subjects such as Principles of Economics, International Economic Policy, Economic Development, Regional Culture and Economics, and World Economy, among others. He also has experience in the derivatives area of private financial institutions in Colombia and Portugal.
His current research interests include behavioral economics and cultural traits for economic development and sustainability.
Research
Overview of research interests & accomplishments
Co-authored a book chapter analyzing the shifts in official development assistance as a result of the 2008 global financial recession, focusing on how assistance partnerships have replaced one-way/condition-less donations with aims to reach higher effectiveness and accountability levels.
Authored a journal article exploring the influence of cultural traits in industrial policy for selected cultural clusters between the 1990s and the 2010s, focusing on how cultural traits can be considered detrimental or advantageous to economic development, and how institutional arrangements and economic policy can be influenced by the individual mindset and priorities of policymakers.
