PBL: The Story Unfolds

The story unfolds (TSU) presents a captivating exploration of navigating difficult conversations as a group, but acting as one person. The actor, Jeffrey, plays the antagonist role who led us on navigating this difficult conversation. TSU is an immersive experience which provides us with insights into navigating life’s difficult conversation such as confronting a peer who is elitist. A notable twist to TSU is the aspect of ‘time outs’ where participants are allowed to call out a ‘time out’ and the actor pauses and we get the chance to reflect and strategize the direction of the conversation.

While effective in fostering diverse perspectives, it is good to acknowledge the fact that it is quite divergent to present reality. In real world dialogues, ‘Time outs’ are a mere dream as we are often confronted with the harsh realities of fast paced conversations where we have to quickly think on our feet rather than pause and re-evaluate our trains of thought. Common in difficult conversations are a few breaks of silence (that often take less than 2 minutes) but otherwise, there are no 5 minute time outs for contemplation.

However, we gained a heightened awareness of what perspectives we could consider when navigating difficult conversations and strategies to use when planning to have such discussions. TSU doesn’t just serve as mere entertainment but it gives us the chance to reflect on how to navigate such, leaving us with newfound understanding.
