Existence, Choice, and Responsibility
This is a course from the Philosophy minor, part of the Open Bachelor’s programme. It is worth 6 ECTS and takes place in Term 1 in Paris.
Course summary
How do you make meaningful choices when no path feels secure? And how do you construct your own narrative in environments that increasingly seek to shape your representations, emotions, and values? Drawing on Kierkegaard, Sartre, de Beauvoir, and Camus, you will examine what agency looks like under constraint (economic, social, political, technological…) and what responsibility means when systems are imperfect and institutions offer no clear guidance. Leadership frequently requires acting in morally ambiguous situations. This course seeks to develop the moral awareness, courage and accountability to act with clarity about what you are choosing, and why it is yours to choose.
