Local Language & Culture Coordinator, Language and English for Academic Purposes Fellow

Dr. Andreas Strasser coordinates Forward’s Program for Local Language and Culture and teaches German Language and Culture as well as English for Academic Purposes. He holds a PhD in German Studies from Princeton University. His research interests include psychoanalysis and its perspective on cultural processes, theories of aesthetic experience in relation to political and economic forms, and the relationship between narration and violence, with a focus on gender dynamics. Before his PhD, he studied Comparative Literature, Theatre Studies and Philosophy at Freie Universität Berlin, the University of Edinburgh, and Humboldt Universität Berlin and received a B.A. from Peter Szondi Institute at Freie Universität Berlin.

In his teaching, Andreas integrates insights from his interdisciplinary academic training. He encourages students to investigate the interplay—and at times opposition—between academic disciplines and students’ personal experiences and invites them to explore how language and narrative shape our perceptions of ourselves and the world.
