The Good Life: Wisdom and Human Flourishing
This is a course from the Philosophy minor, part of the Open Bachelor’s programme. It is worth 6 ECTS and takes place in Term 1 in Lisbon.
Course Summary
What does it mean to live well and why does that question matter more than ever in a world organised around performance, productivity, and external success? Drawing on Aristotle, the Stoics, Nussbaum, and Rosa, you will examine how individuals can live with meaning and agency in societies marked by inequality and constant evaluation, and why human flourishing may be impossible without a resonant rather than extractive relationship with the natural world. Through close reading and applied case studies, you will develop the ethical self-awareness and practical judgment to articulate grounded models of success, for yourself, and for the organisations and communities you will shape as a leader.
